Biography: Dr. Madeleine Pape is a sociologist and Olympic athlete (2008, Athletics) supporting the International Olympic Committee to roll out the 2021 Framework on Fairness, Inclusion and Non-discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sex Variations. Originally from Australia, Dr. Pape obtained her PhD in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 and has published widely on the complex social, scientific, and political dimensions of regulating eligibility in elite women’s sport. Stemming from her experience of competing against Caster Semenya in the 800m at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Dr. Pape has become a valued voice in public and policy discussions surrounding this complex topic.
